Re: Bollywood News
Saif Ali Khan seeks Botox help

09 Jul, 2009 12:00 am ISTlINDIATIMES MOVIES

These days our Bollywood actors are so in... simply because they’re romancing girls half their age, be it on-screen or off-screen. Akshay Kumar and the lovely Katrina Kaif rocked the box office with Welcome and Singh Is Kinng, Shah Rukh Khan was applauded when he romanced debutante Anushka Sharma in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and of course Aamir Khan’s record-breaking stint with Asin in Ghajini is well-known.

But the fight isn’t these lovely beauties’ alone, who have to match there well established on-screen actors step for step. The challenge, dearies, lies even with our 40 something actors who need to look young enough to romance our Bollywood beauties. So cosmetic surgery may well be resorted to, and also a healthier lifestyle.

While talks about SRK’s sudden changed look was quite the talk of the town during last year’s IPL, Saif Ali Khan is the next star, who sources say has bowed down to Botox to help fight maturity lines (read: wrinkles). He apparently got the ‘treatment’ done in London, and has been looking younger, suave and more dashing ever since, so much so that one can easily imagine him be the perfect match to the 20 something Deepika Padukone in his first home production venture ‘Love Aaj Kal’.

A source informs us, “Saif didn’t want to take any chances with the on-screen chemistry and opted to go for the treatment. But he’s looking good.” While his spokespersons choose to remain hush-hush about the Botox treatment, they say it’s his yoga, daily jogs, healthy diet and disciplined routine that makes this charming actor look so good. And of course the love (courtesy girlfriend Kareena Kapoor) and fresh air help add to the glow!

Rakhi Sawant to wear Rs.3 mn necklace on 'swayamvar' D-day

08 Jul, 2009 03:24 pm ISTlIANS

Rakhi Sawant surely couldn't have asked for more. A Rs.30 lakh (Rs. 3 million) necklace designed by Farah Ali Khan, a lehenga-choli wedding dress by celebrity designer Neeta Lulla, a 'swayamvar' on national television and a grand wedding to be watched by millions across the country.

The former 'item girl', who has had a rags-to-riches career, will marry on NDTV Imagine's reality show "Rakhi Ka Swayamvar" soon. She will choose her "perfect man" from among nine grooms who have come from cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Rishikesh, Jaipur and Kanpur and even from places as far off as Toronto.

National award winning designer Neeta Lulla, who is one of Aishwarya Rai's favourite designers, and ace jewellery designer Farah Khan Ali have been roped in to help Rakhi look her best on her D-day. And the two are doing every bit they can to fulfil the bride-to-be's wish to look like a "princess" that special day.

"Rakhi told us she wants to look like a princess that day - something like she has never looked before. I have given her a very colourful ensemble - it's a very conservative outfit," Lulla told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

"For her wedding day, Rakhi would be wearing a lehenga-choli in five different colours with ornate kundan work to give her an ethnic Rajasthani look," said Lulla, who has designed Aishwarya's clothes in movies like "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", "Devdas" and more recently "Jodhaa Akbar".

To complement her outfit, Rakhi will be donning traditional Indian jadau jewellery designed by Farah Ali Khan, the daughter of yesteryears actor Sanjay Khan and well-known interior designer Zarine Khan.

"The choker that Rakhi will be wearing for her wedding day is very heavy. It looks very traditional and covers almost her entire neck," she said.

According to Khan, the choker costs approximately Rs.3 million.

However, Lulla has refused to divulge the price tag of her outfit.

The two designers are not only putting their creative instincts together for Rakhi's wedding day but also for the sangeet and mehendi (pre-wedding) ceremonies.

For the sangeet, Rakhi decided to opt for an Indo-Western look in blue. Lulla says it is a very contemporary outfit. To match the dress, Khan has given her an elaborate diamond neck piece, which also costs around Rs.3 million.

If both the designers are to be believed, Rakhi was extremely "accomodating" to their suggestions but gave her inputs as well.

"Rakhi told me that her earrings shouldn't be very heavy so that she can dance freely. She also said that I should design ornaments which don't break," said Khan.

If this wasn't enough, model-turned-fashion co-ordinator Marc Robinson has also been roped in to groom Rakhi's prospective grooms, who are vying to marry the former item girl through the reality show.

Rakhi's wedding will take place as soon as she zeroes in on an eligible bachelor for herself on NDTV Imagine's show "Rakhi Ka Swayamvar" - a move that has left a lot of people in tinsel town shocked.

Re: Bollywood News
Is 'Shotgun' Sinha taking a dig at Big B

Read between the lines when the actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha conveys his (not-so) simple thoughts to media.

Making a comeback in films with “Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai’, Shotgun Sinha will be seen romancing Big B’s once-upon-a-time love interest Rekha. They last worked together in the film “Khoon Bhari Maang’ twenty years ago.

Not-so-happening director Ramesh Talwar is directing their mature love story. When asked why he chose to do his comeback with an average director he answers, “If “Nishabd’ did not do well at the box office it does not mean Amitabh Bachchan is not a good actor. Hits and flops are not the parameter to judge the ability of a person”.

Shatru, as we see never misses a chance to have a dig at his favourite Shatru and keeps reminding the world of Big B’s fiasco Nishabd.

Amitabh and Shatrughan renewed their enmity during the time when authenticity of a certain awards function was in question.

They may have fallen apart long ago but the liberty to speak your mind without minding your language on blogs have bridge the gap. As Amitabh is an ambassador of IIFA, anything related to IIFA said and done became the subject of their blog-o-spat.

Now we all know IIFA awards had rolled out a green carpet on day one to send out the eco-friendly signals.

And when we asked Shatru for his opinion on global warming; he didn’t mince words, “I am not versed with the subject but people who talk about it have been commuting in AC cars. Aise bade bade log ghadiyaali aansoo bahate hai”.

Umm… we wonder is this “bade log’ a tall, dark and handsome “angry’ old man?

Re: Bollywood News
For Real or Fake?

Are the stars of today as real as they claim to be? Is there some truth to the rumours? Reputed plastic surgeon Dr Maurizio Viel weighs in with his opinion...

The whispers have been doing the round for some time now about how this star has got are-constructive surgery done or how that star has had breast implants. But no star has ever come out in the open to admit to surgery except for a few like Koena Mitra and Shilpa Shetty who has admitted to having her nose reconstructed. Masala! decides to take the bull by the horn and takes a look at the rumours and what plastic surgeon to the stars Dr Maurizio Viel of the London Center for Aesthetic Surgery Gulf has to say.

Aishwarya Rai
Rumoured: The immovable forehead, the over-arching eyebrows and the increasingly frozen cheeks are raising doubts as to whether the junior Mrs Bachchan is indulging in just a wee bit too much of botox, collagen and fillers. She’s been rumoured to have had work done to her lips and done work on her nose even before the Miss India contest!
Dr Viel: Definitely botox. Hard to say anything about the rest.

Urmila Matondkar
Rumoured: Karzzzz... showcased Urmila at her worst. It showed an actress well past her prime and fighting it badly.
Dr Viel: I think she has done something on the eyebrows, they are higher, the lips are bigger, and she has got more volume on the face. She could have re-volumised the face.

Karishma Kapoor
Rumoured: Karishma has never looked better – raising rumours in the party circuit that she has had fillers in her cheeks, done work on her nose and, of course, injected botox.
Dr Viel: Are they the same girl? But these changes could also be due to weight loss.

Shilpa Shetty
Rumoured: She has admitted to having restructured her nose and even professed that she regretted it. But the Bollywood insiders say that she has also used collagen and botox, put fillers into her cheeks and had breast implants.
Dr Viel: Besides the fact that I don’t like her hairstyle… I must say that the work on her nose is pretty decent.

Priyanka Chopra
Rumoured: So diametrically different has Priyanka Chopra’s off screen image been between 2007 and 2009 that some insiders put it down to the scalpel.
Dr Viel: There is a bit of an increased arch near the brows which could be due to botox. But the main reason for her new look is weight loss.

Esha Deol
Rumoured: When she disappeared for a few months in early 2009, the rumours of a visit to a plastic surgeon increased. The industry grapevine is abuzz with rumours of her having had a nose job, cheek fillers and work on her lips.
Dr Viel: It is hard to say, though the lips look a bit thinner. But I think the main overall change is because of weight loss. With age you’re losing volume on the face and I think that’s what has happened here.

Gauri Khan
Rumoured: More in the news for her partying ways nowadays than her beauty, Gauri is supposed to be a huge fan of botox, collagen and lipo.
Dr Viel: If she has done something, she has done it really well, because she looks really natural for her age. She doesn’t have any lines between the eyes or on her forehead – you can achieve these results with Botox.

Rumoured: She claims that a good night’s sleep and yoga has kept her eternally young. Hah! say the rumour mongers, who are convinced that the original B’wood diva has partaken deeply off the plastic surgery menu.
Dr Viel: I’d say that she has not had any face lift, because you can see that the shape near her ears is absolutely normal. At least it doesn’t show on the hairline, any way. As far as her face goes, she’s got some pigmentation here and there, which shows that she has not had much done except peels maybe. Also looks like she adds volume to her lips by drawing outside the lips and adding more lipstick. At the most, botox on the forehead maybe.

Re: Bollywood News
HOT: Box office figures fudged?

Read on for the most startling revelation in Bollywood

By Rohit Khilnani . CNN-IBN Jul 22, 2009

The next time you come across a film promotion ad which says super hit, think twice. It doesn't take a hit film to put up ads because whether a film is a hit or not this is all part of a planned promotional campaign.

There may be ads that say a film has collected Rs 100 crore but does it really matter to the movie buffs?

"Sometimes producers publish super hit posters even before the film has released. It's clear that some producers play with the audience when their film is not working," filmmaker Supran Verma said.

A case in point is the recent release Kambakhht Ishq. Considering the high profile star cast, a flamboyant producer and Sylvester Stallone as an added attraction, this film was expected to be a big hit at the box office but destiny had different plans for the film.

It has been over two weeks and the film is far from recovering its cost. It has reportedly made Rs 62 crore but the ads in the papers insist that the film has already collected Rs 100 crore. So the facts obviously differ.

In the past too there have been many filmmakers who have claimed a lot more than their films have collected. For a long time the producers of the biggest flop of 2009 Chandni Chowk to China claimed that the film is running to packed houses but even there the reality was something else.

Only later when the theatre owners started to pull out the film from the screens a week after its release that it was clear that Akshay Kumar was not able to draw the crowds this time.

The ads of last years biggest dud Love Story 2050 also said that the film at some point was running successfully. But this never happened. Even Yashraj studios claimed that their film Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic performed well at the box office but the film was a complete washout.

Though, we have reached the multiplex age, the Indian box office remains disorganised and some producers clearly take advantage and tamper with box office figures.

Re: Bollywood News
Kareena Kapoor- Damn critics!

By Joginder Tuteja

Kambakkht Ishq arrived, got ripped apart by critics, made it's crores, enjoyed it's celebrations and is now being followed by the release of other big films like Love Aaj Kal and Kaminey. With the euphoria surrounding the release of the film dying down over last few weeks and an all around stability coming in, Kareena Kapoor comes out smiling.

"Whatever I have would have said earlier would have seemed as if I was defending the movie. But then that was never the case. Why would I have done that when box office was the biggest defender of all? Audiences came in dozens to watch the film and they made the movie a success.

Even though it may not be the quintessential super-duper blockbuster Bollywood hit but a very good success it certainly is and collections pretty much prove that", says Kareena who is now looking forward to the release of Saif Ali Khan's Love Aaj Kal which releases this Friday.

In retrospection, doesn't she feel surprised with the way media came down heavily on the film? Sighs Kareena, "But then isn't a film like Kambakkht Ishq an easy movie to criticize?

If one looks in the recent past, most Akshay (Kumar) films have seen a similar response from critics as well as box office. Look at Welcome or Singh Is Kinng; critics disliked them both but audiences had their own mind."

"Akshay is perhaps one of the only stars who has been party to such a consistent run with critics as well his audiences, both of whom seem to be on different sides of the fence", she smiles.

Even for Kareena, this is not the first time though that one of her films went on to become a big money spinner in spite of coming under the hammer. Last year, there was not a single critic who stood up to Rohit Shetty directed Golmaal Returns but the film made mega bucks after taking a thunderous initial.

"I guess by working in films like Omkara or Jab We Met and a Golmaal Returns or Kambakkht Ishq, I am striking just the right balance.

It's okay when critics do not like Kambakkht Ishq or Golmaal Returns; there are some films that are made purely for the audiences and they succeed there.

Critics may be having an individualistic opinion while audiences always come together with a collective verdict. It's a matter of choice at the end of the day, so it's all fine", she reasons.

Coming months should be indeed exciting for her as it would be there for all to see if critics as well as audiences warm up to her performance. Starting with Qurbaan, she would also be seen in Main Aur Mrs. Khanna as well as 3 Idiots.

Re: Bollywood News
Shahid and Vishal Bhardwaj come close to an ugly fist-fight

Updated on Wednesday, August 05, 2009, 17:57 IST

Spicezee Bureau

Mumbai: There is only room for one perfectionist in the industry and that is Aamir Khan for when Shahid Kapur tried to display his ‘perfection-seeking-antics’, he landed in a scuffle with Vishal Bhardwaj. Bhardwaj lashed out at Shahid and the two ended up in a collar pulling fight - the crew of ‘Kaminey’ witnessed a live action sequence with no one to call ‘cut’.

Just weeks before Bhardwaj’s much-anticipated film is set to hit theatres, the director has had a messy spat with Shahid Kapur and it’s all thanks to the actor’s airy ways and constant interference with the publicity of the film.

Apparently, it seems that Shahid is much too impressed by Aamir’s multi-tasking but infuriating ways. So much so is the actor inspired by Aamir that he is constantly behaving like a brat on the sets and meddling with every aspect of the film’s marketing and publicity.

Confirming the news a daily quoted a source as saying, "Shahid is trying to act like as if he were a Shah Rukh or a Aamir. Vishal was upset with him as he was trying to behave like a perfectionist actor on the sets”.

Fuming at Shahid’s dim-witted acts, Bhardwaj summoned the actor to his office to discuss the matter in person. But the director’s efforts to clear the air went futile when Shahid refused to mend his ways. The two ended up having an argument as they went for each other’s collars.

On the verge of a fist-fight, Bhardwaj’s assistant stopped the two in time.

Re: Bollywood News
Desperate Housewives of Bollywood

Bollywood divas like true Indian women are well aware of what wedding bells mean. However, like every normal human being they too have had their share of relationships. Let’s go down the memory lane and witness their disastrous love-relationships and scandalous affairs before they land up as ideal Bahu rani in someone else’s household.

Aishwarya Rai: The word Beauty loses its essence before this bolly-diva. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan before stepping into Bachchan camp has had her share of love-affairs. Let’s have a glimpse on her passing affairs: beginning with tinsel town’s macho man Salman Khan.

Although, the duo didn’t part ways on amicable terms but they undoubtedly compliment each other as far as looks are concerned. Salman and later, Vivek Oberoi were head-over-heels in love with this world-class beauty.

Ash never denied of an affair with Salman, however, she was left with nothing but sheer emotional scars at the end. Mr. Oberoi’s love always seemed to be one-sided considering Ash’s consistent denial. Wonder, if she had no feelings for Vivek…why was she traced every now and then with the latter.

Nevertheless, Ash today is a part of first family of film fraternity. Let sleeping dogs lie, wotsay Padam-shreemati Bachchan.

Nargis: This eternal beauty’s much-hyped affair with Raj Kapoor was the talk-of-the-town during her time. The duo painted their romance in best possible way.

However, considering the family values Kapoor could not materialize their love into wedding, leaving Nargis in disdain. Mother India was a turning point in Nargis’s life. Her love yet again blossomed with a newcomer Sunil Dutt and eventually turned into marriage.

Amrita Singh: Amrita Singh might be tight-lipped about her ex-hubby’s affair with first- Rosa and eventually then- Kareena Kapoor. However, this gorgeous diva too had her share of affairs before getting married to Chote Nawab.

Tina Munim: This bolly-beauty was responsible for breaking the most talked about love marriage of Rajesh Khanna andDimple Kapadia.

Tina Munim and Rajesh Khanna became the leading couples of 80’s on and off screen. In-fact, a reel-life drama was churned out on the real-life story of Khanna, Dimple and Tina titled Sauten. They had a long and beautiful affair, until Tina decided to tie the knot with Anil Ambani.

Like the other two ladies Anju Mahendru and Dimple Kapadia, she could not withhold herself from raving about Khanna. Such was the charm of super-stars on all the ladies he dated in his time.

Amrita Arora: The sexy-siren and Bollywood wildcat Amrita Arora might have kept low-key, as far as her affair with British cricket player Usmaan Afzal is concerned. Her list of ex-boyfriends is longer than the number of movies she did. But now recently she has settled down with Shakeel Ladhak by bidding good-bye to her ex-affairs.

Karishma Kapoor: Kapoor and Bachchan were all set to bless their new generation. A lavish engagement at J W Marriot would have eventually led to wedding if everything had worked out well between the two families.

The real reason of the relationship gone sour is yet to be known, but the duo’s long and beautiful love affair ended in despair. Karishma later on, tied-knot with a businessman Sanjay Kapur and rest, as they say is history.

Raveena Tandon: Akshay and Raveena had a storming love affair, which everyone thought would end in a happily ever-after wedding. But alas! Khiladi Kumar’s never ending list of girls tired Raveena.

She was heard to have forgone her career for her man. Akshay’s eventual link-up with Shilpa Shetty spoilt the beautiful relationship. Raveena broke off amicably and later on got married to a sindhi businessman.

Aishwarya's long forgotten boyfriend reappears

Tuesday, December 29, 2009, 9:14 [IST]

By: Subhadeep Bhattacharjee

If you though Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi were the only two men Aishwarya Bachchan dumped before marrying Abhishek Bachchan, think again. Aishwarya had dated model Rajeev Mulchandani at the start of her career. The two had met during their modelling days and instantly connected but as Aishwarya's career starting scaling new heights Rajeev turned out to be no match for her and the relationship died a natural death.

Buzz up!
Rajeev Mulchandani has however emerged from nowhere and was spotted at a recent Page 3 event. Rajeev who had once dated world's most beautiful woman looked skinny to the core during the event. Aishwarya wasn't the only Bollywood actress who dumped Rajeev as he faced similar heartbreak from Manisha Koirala as well. Seems like Rajeev's stars did not favour him when it came to dating B-Town babes.

The shocking truth about Salma Agha

12 Jan, 2010 07:06 pm ISTlAfsana Ahmed /INDIATIMES MOVIES

Salma Agha these days is very busy assembling singers and stars for her upcoming fund raising concerts. Now that Bollywood has come up to help her, one wonders if the Nikaah and Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki actress will pull in her Pakistani counterparts to entertain the audiences on this side of the border. “No, never,” she replies adding, “I am not a Pakistani and I don’t have any Pakistani lineage,” she admits in a shocking revelation. “I am the fourth generation Indian. My grandfather is the late Raj Kapoor’s mama (maternal uncle). His name was Jugal Hansraj Mehra, who converted to Islam after marrying my grandmother. Both my parents were born in Amritsar”.

This is a shocking piece of news, for the world all this while believed her to be a Pakistani. “I have just worked in their films. I have got nothing to do with Pakistan. Even my daughters have a strong resemblance to the Kapoor clan, especially Karisma and Kareena Kapoor,” smiles Salma.

Uddhav Thackeray calls Saif Ali Khan a tapori

30 Jan, 2010 03:44 pm ISTlINDIATIMES MOVIES

After targeting Bollywood badshah Shah Rukh Khan for his remarks on Pakistani cricketers, Shiv Sena has now targeted the Nawab. It is Saif who is at the receiving end of Shiv Sena's brickbats. Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray called the actor a tapori (vagabond) who did not deserve the Padma Sri award. The protest came after government announced the Padma Shri for Saif and Saif commented that, 'The honour should've been given to someone more senior'

Recently, members of the Bishnoi community also protested against Saif. They demanded withdrawal of the Padma Shri to him and burnt Khan's effigy in Jodhpur. The community cited the pending court case against him under the Wildlife Protection Act for killing two black bucks while shooting for Sooraj Barjatya's film 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' in October, 1998.

In 2009, Kareena and Saif starrer 'Kurbaan' also was in the news, when Shiv Sena protested against the posters of the film showing Kareena's bare back.
